Penguins Improve to 5 - 1

Let me start this by apologizing for my lack of posts to start the season, I have been extremely busy at work and actually have not got to see many of the games. I did however get a chance to watch the Ottawa game and was very impressed with our third line. This line seems to have picked up where they left off in the playoffs last year and Staal and Kennedy look to be having career years (once again I hesitate to say that this early in the season). The depth and scoring balance this teams is showing right now is scary, if all our lines can continue to produce like this all season long we will be unstoppable.

Now for the things that I saw that worried me.
1. Crosby looks frustrated to me and last nights game was the first time that i have ever watched him and felt he wasn't giving 100% effort. This may have to do with the fact that one of his wingers is older than the head coach and clearly can't keep up with Crosby's speed even though he can still finish when he gets the puck in a scoring position and his other winger couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with the puck. Every game Kunitz looks more and more like an over paid third line winger to me.

2. Malkin does not have a quality scoring winger either. I like Feds on that line and think he deserves to be there but we need someone who can actually play on the other side of him.

3. our best scoring winger plays on our third line (Kennedy).

Now for the Positives.
1. we are 5-1
2. Fluery finally looks like a goalie who is going to play consistently up to his potential.
3. we are winning with out Crosby and Malkin putting up huge numbers.

I hate to sound negative about a team that is 5 and 1 but if i just sat here and wrote about everything that the Penguins do great this would not be very interesting to read.

  1. It's too early for me personally to disregard Kunitz, but there were a couple times against the Laffs and Yotes that had me actually yelling out loud at him. At least when he wasn't scoring goals last year in playoffs he was hitting the crap out of people, but he isn't doing that now either.

Again, it's too early for me to personally write off Kunitz yet, but his time may be comin....

MAF is lookin like a machine though. Amazing what a series clinching save in a Game 7 to win the Cup will do to a man's confidence.

  2. Well i am ready to write Kunitz off but i was pretty much so ready to do that the day they traded for him last year. And yea MAF has been amazing if he keeps this level of play up all season are record will be rediculous.
